Retainer Fabrication Maintain your healthier and straighter smile.
Once you've completed your orthodontic treatment, the next step in the process is for a retainer to be fabricated to match and maintain the new alignment you’ve achieved.
Without a retainer, your teeth and bite will tend to revert back to their previous, pre-orthodontic treatment state. Not even a retainer can prevent all movement, but wearing a retainer is the best way to maintain the progress you’ve achieved. Retainers are fabricated for orthodontic patients after both traditional braces and Invisalign.
We will instruct you in how many hours each day you will need to wear your retainer in order to preserve the effects of your treatment. Initially, this can be 12 hours or more per day. You will also be directed to wear your retainer to bed at night for a period of time to be determined by your Chambers Street orthodontist.
Following the instructions for retainer use will give your bones and tissues time to adjust more permanently to the new tooth and bite alignment you have achieved. There are different kinds of retainers, including removable and non-removable varieties. Depending on the degree of orthodontic correction you have undergone, your orthodontist will make a recommendation as to what type will work best for you.
